Compost Top-Dressing FAQs

Compost top-dressing is the process of spreading a thin layer of screened organic compost over your lawn. This adds vital nutrients, organic matter, and beneficial microbes to your soil, improving turf health and helping grass grow stronger.

We use Leafgro® organic compost — a premium, locally produced blend of recycled leaves and yard trim. It’s screened, nutrient-rich, and trusted at many Washington–Baltimore landmarks for improving soil and turf.

We typically apply about ¼ inch of compost across your lawn. This depth enriches the soil and fills aeration holes without smothering grass.

Seeding is not included by default. However, we recommend pairing top-dressing with core aeration and overseeding for the best results. Both services are available in our fall lawn packages.
